SpryCAD

Features

The current release. SpryCAD is pre-1.0; this list grows with each release.

Sketching

2D profiles on planes and planar faces, solved by a numerical constraint solver.

Geometry
Line, centerline, corner and center rectangle, circle, centerpoint, 3-point and tangent arc, polygon, straight slot, spline, point. Trim, sketch fillet, offset and mirror entities, Convert Entities, construction geometry.
Relations
Inferred while drawing: coincident, horizontal, vertical, midpoint, on-entity. Explicit: parallel, perpendicular, collinear, equal, tangent, concentric, symmetric, fix.
References
Model vertices, edges, edge midpoints and hole centers, and geometry of earlier sketches. Associative: they follow the model.
Dimensions
Smart Dimension: linear, aligned, point to line, radius, diameter, angle. Driven reference dimensions. Every value accepts an expression.
Solver
Minimum-change dragging and degrees-of-freedom analysis: under defined (blue), fully defined (black), over defined (red).
Sketch tools
Sketch Axes, Change Sketch Plane, Sketch Picture (PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, WebP, or pasted), Spline from Table.

Part features

History-based solid modeling on an exact B-rep kernel. Every feature previews before OK.

Extrude
Boss and cut. Blind, through all, through all both, up to surface with offset, mid plane, two directions, draft.
Revolve, sweep, loft
Boss and cut. Sweep along tangent lines and arcs or a circle. Loft between profiles with start and end tangency.
Helical
A profile swept along a helix about an axis, edge or cylindrical face, with optional run-out. Exact screw surfaces.
Thread
On shafts and in holes, from the thread tables: metric coarse and fine, inch, and NPT, NPTF, Rc and G pipe threads. Blind, up to next, through all; lead-in chamfer, relief groove, fit clearance. Modeled or cosmetic.
Hole Wizard
Simple, counterbore, countersink, tapped and pipe-tapped holes from ISO and ASME tables. Editable hole profiles. Blind, through all, up to next, up to surface.
Fillet and chamfer
Rolling-ball fillets between any two faces, including curved ones, solved to 1e-8 mm. Tangent edge chains in one blend.
Shell and draft
Shell with faces removed. Draft about a neutral plane, planar and round faces.
Patterns and mirror
Linear in two directions, circular, mirror. Fillets and chamfers pattern like any other feature and are solved again where an instance differs.
Reference geometry
Planes (offset, angle, through a point, normal to a curve), axes, temporary axes and centers of round faces.
Bodies
Multi-body parts. Combine: add, subtract, common.
Appearance
Per part, feature or face. Kept in STEP export.

Parameters

Design intent stored in the part.

Equations
Global variables and expressions in every field: W = 100mm, W/2 + 5mm, sin(30deg).
Units
MMGS or IPS per part. Values keep their units: 10in in a millimeter part, 1in + 2mm.
Suppression
Conditions such as Teeth < 30 suppress a feature and its dependents.
Design tables
Rows of values as named configurations, with part number, description and material per row.
Spreadsheets
Excel or LibreOffice workbooks embedded in the part. Their sheets give design tables and point tables; saving in the spreadsheet program updates the part.
Configurable parts
User-facing parameters set per component in an assembly.

Assemblies

Components positioned by mates and solved together.

Components
Linked to part files or embedded. Nested sub-assemblies, Form Sub-assembly, Replace Component. Fixed or floating.
Mates
Coincident, concentric, parallel, perpendicular, tangent, lock, distance and angle with limits. Gear and screw mates. Conflicts shown in red.
Motion
Drag within the mates. Motor turns a component about an axis and drives the mechanism through its mates.
Patterns
Linear and circular component patterns, Mirror Components.
Tools
Exploded views, Interference Detection, Bill of Materials at every level, Pack and Go.
Large assemblies
Opened from cached displays, built in the background. Parts found by identity, so renamed or moved files still resolve.

Standard parts

Parametric library parts, placed by their mate references.

Fasteners
ISO and ASME socket head, countersunk, hex head and button head screws; shoulder screws (ISO 7379, ASME B18.3); set screws (ISO 4026–4029, ASME B18.3); hex nuts; plain washers. Metric coarse, fine and inch threads.
Bearings
ISO 15 deep groove ball bearings: 60, 62, 63 and 618 series.
Insert Fastener
Fills Hole Wizard holes and their pattern instances in one step: screw length matched to the stack, nut and washers, thread matched to the tapped part. Follows the holes when parts change.
Insert Standard Part
Shoulder screws as pivots, bearings on a shaft or in a bore, set screws in tapped holes.
Library
Each dimension taken from at least two published sources. Browsable by standard and type in Tools > Libraries > Standard Parts. Editable, and exported to Excel.

Drawings

Part and assembly drawings (.sdrw), associative to the model.

Views
Model, projected, section (angled, partial, own scale), detail, auxiliary, broken, broken-out section, crop. Wireframe, hidden lines visible or removed, shaded, shaded with edges.
Dimensions
Linear, diameter, radius, angle, ordinate, baseline, chamfer, arc length. Decimals, tolerances, dual units, a drafting standard per drawing.
Annotations
Notes and leaders, center marks, centerlines, bolt circles, hole callouts, hole tables, datums, feature control frames, surface finish and weld symbols, BOM tables and balloons.
Sheets
Several per drawing. Sheet formats with border, zones and a title block tied to custom properties. Layers.
Output
PDF, SVG, DXF, print.
Revisions
Every save a numbered version. Release Revision labels a drawing and its parts together.

Sheet metal

Formed parts and their flat patterns.

Features
Base Flange, Edge Flange, Hem, cuts. Gauge tables with tooling and bend rules.
Convert to Sheet Metal
A modeled, shelled or imported STEP solid becomes a sheet metal body: bends, rips and hems recognized from its faces.
