How licenses work
Applies from version 1.0. Only editing requires a seat.
- Viewing
- Opening, viewing, measuring, printing and exporting require no license.
- Seat
- Assigned to a user, not a computer. Editing on a second computer moves the seat there; the first computer can keep editing for 15 minutes.
- Perpetual
- Covers every version released during the updates period. When updates lapse, the last covered version keeps running with no time limit.
- Renewal
- $50 for one year, up to 30 days after updates end. After that, $100, and the year starts on the payment date. No back fees.
- Trial
- 30 days of use; only days with an edit count. Expires one year after it starts. Requires an account.
- Offline
- Editing continues for 7 days without a connection to the license server. A seat can be borrowed for up to 30 days.
- Save
- Always available, with or without a seat.
- Files
- Not tied to a license. Files created during a trial are ordinary files.
- Floating seats
- A pool of seats shared by more users than seats. Planned after 1.0; price to be announced.
- Offline activation
- Node-locked activation for computers without internet access, and an on-premises license server for isolated networks. Planned after 1.0.
Questions
Can I use the pre-release for paid work?
Yes. The pre-release is free for any use, including commercial work.
Is it a subscription?
No. A license is a one-time purchase and includes one year of updates. Updates after that are $50 a year. Without them, the last version released in the updates period keeps running.
How many computers can I install it on?
Any number. A seat edits on one computer at a time.
What happens to my files after a trial?
Nothing. They open, print and export as before, and can be edited again with a license.
What if the license server shuts down for good?
If it is shut down permanently, a version or key that needs no server is released, so licensed users keep working. Section 3.5 of the license agreement commits to this.
